Linking the “Sonko Rescue Team” concept to Kenya vision 2030
As a scholar with special interest in safety service delivery, Sonko Rescue Team has been under radar of this platform not mainly due to the publicity it is receiving but for the positive response it has generated in the social circles in Nairobi according to various media houses reports. But the big question remain, is Sonko Rescue Team activities geared towards achieving the blue prints of Kenya’ development, the Kenya vision 2030.

Sessional paper 2012 on Kenya vision 2030 outlines three pillars of development that the country focuses on to implementing its vision which includes economic; social; and political pillars. From the activities the rescue team is engaged in, it major contribution can be linked to the social pillar which outlines the sectors education and training; health; environment, water and sanitation, population, urbanization and housing; and gender, youth and vulnerable groups.
The Sonko Rescue Team from their Facebook posts are engaged in four major activities which are outlined as provision of emergency response service; provision of free limousines for weddings; provision of hearse services; and provision of general services. Since all these activities touches on all sectors of the core social pillar, we can easily refer to Sonko Rescue Team as a multi-sectorial model in achieving Kenya Vision 2030 through implementation of MTP II multi-sectorial plans. Since this model is not policy based nor is it based on generating laws to improve on social well being, we can easily observe that the team focuses on implementing programmes and projects touching on all the social sectors to contribute towards prosperity and building a just and cohesive society that enjoys equitable social development in a clean and secure environment.

Conclusion
“Sonko Rescue Team” is a direct contribution to the Kenya Vision 2030 but since this document has not taken into account their Strategic which I presume is for the year 2015 – 2018, the plan should be geared towards contribution towards the vision 2030 goals. But again Kenya vision 2030 projects are implemented by the government in its mandate to improving the livelihood of its citizen. The Sonko Rescue Team is a private initiative and would work to the benefit of the common people if its strategic plan initiates a private-public-partner (PPP) initiative. If this is not done then there is likelihood of conflict with the revamped and rebranded Kenya National Youth Service (KNYS).
