Two escape death as helicoper crash land at Wilson Airport - Kenya

Two Zambians escaped death yesterday after their helicopter crash-landed and burst into flames at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi. The foreign registered chopper was about to land at the busy airport when it came down just a few metres away from the main control tower. The two were evacuated from the wreckage by police officers and rushed to the Nairobi Hospital in a Kenya Airports Authority ambulance.

Officials at the airport said the plane had arrived from Juba in Sudan and was likely making a stop-over at the airport for routine servicing. The accident occurred at about midday. It exposed a weakness in disaster preparation at the airport with firefighters taking more than two hours to put out the fire. Officials complained of lack of water to put out the fire as the available water engines had not water.
