Scores feared dead as boat capsizes in River Nzoia



Several people are feared dead after a passenger boat capsized at River Nzoia’s Narera crossing point in Budalang’i on Saturday afternoon. The boat had left Port Victoria in Busia County headed for Mau Mau beach when the 1pm incident occurred.Bunyala West location chief, Alfred Namwakira, said there were about 20 people on board at the time of the tragedy.He said one body of a child had been recovered, with rescue efforts underway.“One woman who was travelling with her three children has been rescued. The body that has been retrieved is her child’s. The other two are missing,” the chief told Nation by phone.
He added: “Initial reports say the boat was overloaded. We are yet to ascertain exactly how many people were on board.”
