Exams safety tips for pupils and students studying in Kenya
As the
examination dates approaches Kenyan pupils and students undergo immense
pressure as these examinations literary as they have been made to believe
defines their future. A low grade in these examinations therefore would mean
the end of their dreams. Many dreams have been killed by these examinations, from
the less mentioned ones like firefighters, EMTs, Forest guides to the most
common ones like neuro-surgeons, engineers, pilots and the rests. Some of those
examined have gone to the extent of ending their life immediately they receive
results. Most studies reviewed are focused on the after of the examinations and
not the before and especially the safety aspect of preparing these pupils and
students towards a safe examination. The focus, for those who have read the article
on difference between safety and security, should be on both the safety of the
student before and during the examinations and the security of premises where
the examinations are being undertaken. With this background it is prudent to
discuss some of the most important safety measures to following before and
during examinations:
1. Take frequent breaks
In Kenya
this exam is important for the direction your life takes yes, but it does not
mean that now you have to read, read and read. Reading for long hours might in
the long run end up negating the good knowledge that you already have. It is
important to note that everyone is different and developing a schedule for
reading that works for you will be one of the best achievements towards stress
free examinations.
2. Keep off junk food!
This
especially goes to pupils and students who have the luxury of choosing from
among many what they eat. You might be having a feeling that you need to reward
yourself for the work you are doing in order to save time. But what you are not
aware of is the fact that junk foods have an impact on your energy levels and
focus. The nutritionist would advise you to choose foods that have been proven
to aid in concentration and memory which includes fish, njugu, yogurt and apples. During the examination day eat a good
meal before the tests as you will need all the energy. Sugar like taking ice
cream in the gust that you don’t want to sleep during the examination is a
fallacy as your energy will decrease as near the end and you let it go and
hopes everything works.
3. Do not dip your feet in cold water
This is
not an idiomatic expression but students and pupils alike from studies and
experiences in Kenya have shown that to keep awake they dip their feet in cold
water. The author does not command expertise in the human health field but cold
water from expert review causes “brain freeze”. The other major effect is
numbness at the feet hence even more disruption at the expense of being
attentive. The best cure is taking a rest once you attention cannot hold any
more.
4. Avoid hide and seek reading
Students
have this habit of competing in reading and would hide behind toilets,
classrooms, and major building. In doing this one is convince that they have
undue advantage over their colleagues as they have read enough. Trust this
author, this kind of behavior only worsen the situation as your brain is
reading the fact that you are hiding as part of the learning process and the
most probable thing you will remember is you hiding.
5. Form study hubs
With
group of friends you can have a study hub where you consult with them on
various topics related to your subjects as it will enhance your brain’s better
understanding of the concepts. This in some schools it is also referred to as
the study groups and for schools that
understand the importance of studying in groups this concept is already
implemented. The groups not only enhance self-esteem but they also give you a
reflection on your achievement as you near the exams.
Lastly,
examinations as part of artificial life processes and the greatest achievers in
life gave education a wide birth. Examples would include great men who invented Facebook, the apples guys, and many more known to this author. Life is important;
resist your life being defined by some examination.
