At least five people died on the spot and several others were
injured when a bus collided with a truck near Emali along Mombasa Road
on Saturday night.
According to St John Ambulance
spokesperson Fred Majiwa, the bus which was heading to Mombasa from
Nakuru collided head on with a truck that was going in the opposite
direction while attempting to overtake. The truck was ferrying bags of
rice from Mombasa to Molo.
The drivers of the bus and the truck were killed, as well as three passengers including a week-old baby.
The injured were rushed to Kilome Nursing Home in Emali while the vehicles were towed to Emali police station.
Makueni
County police boss Waithera Kipsoi called for drivers to be vigilant
during the festive period. "I urge drivers to observe traffic rules to
avoid these accidents," she said.

An
eyewitness who was driving behind the vehicle told the Nation at the
scene that the speeding 2NK Sacco bus was attempting to overtake a
Chania Special bus at the time of the accident.
Area
