Nairobi's Spirit Factory FireNAIROBI, KENYA: At
least eight people were Tuesday injured in an explosion and fire
incident at a spirits factory along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
Fire fighters battled to contain the fire at the Africa Spirits Limited
near Nyayo Stadium in the city. It broke out at about midday, official
said.
The fire spread fast because the site handles spirits and blends other
alcohols, which are highly inflammable, police said.
Emergence service providers were rushed there and some were controlling
crowds surging there out of the place in fears other remaining tanks may
explode and cause more damages and injuries.
Police said those who were injured were workers hit by glasses from the
site and they are yet to know the cause of the explosion that caused the
fire.
The injured were rushed to hospital in stable condition. They had minor
burns and cuts.
Makadara OCPD Tom Atuti said they were yet to know the cause of the fire
and that experts had been sent there to launch investigations.
“We are informed there are some people who have been rushed to hospital
following the initial blast that caused the fire but they are out of
danger,” said Atuti.
Other employees of the factory said everyone, including those who were
injured were evacuated from the scene.
“Some of our colleagues have been taken to hospital but in stable
condition. We can account for everyone,” said one worker.
The factory manufactures and sells spirit to various companies
