Speed limits in various Kenyan roads



There are six road types in Kenya classified according to the functional criteria related to administrative level of centres the roads connects. Class A roads connect international ports and airports. Such roads are Mombasa - Nairobi, Nairobi – Kampala, Nairobi – Isiolo – Addis, Nairobi – Namanga – Dar es Salaam. These roads except those leading North of Kenya are well constructed and maintained.

The other road types linking provincial headquarters, districts, divisions and local centres vary in their state of conditions.

Most roads in Kenya are two way except in major cities in Kenya such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu where some dual carriageways lead in and out of the city.

Black Spots in Kenya are prone to repeated accidents. Get acquainted with these areas to avoid repeating mistakes such as speed in corners.

The Kenya Traffic Act controls driving on the roads. The speed limits on Kenya roads are:
1.       100km/hr in out of town single carriageways
2.       110km/hr in out of town dual carriageways
3.       50km/hr in urban centres.

There are several road bumps on Kenya roads that you must be aware of. Also Kenya police mount patrols and road blocks to check on vehicles. Drivers in Kenya must always carry their driving licenses.

While driving in Kenya roads as is in many roads utmost care must be taken to avoid accidents. Accidents in Kenya must be reported as soon as they happen to avoid claims and liabilities.
